If you want to help out, please contact me first via the contact
form, please tell me what chapter you would like to translate (or if
you just want to check the stuff that’s also fine) and what version you
would like to use. I will check whether that builds and give you
permission to start the chapter. Note that perhaps others asked the
same question, in that angle i will be very hard: First come, First
Serve. So it’s wise to include 2 chapters, your primairy one which you
would happily translate and a secondairy one in case someone obtained
it already.
When the approval came for the chapter / article / part you want to translate. You will be asked what address needs to be included on our freebsd-doc-nl mailinglist. In that way you can keep track with the projects internals and read frequent updates.

And all the hard work of me and my team is going to pay off. The FreeBSD Documentation team (Josef El-Rayes) helped me import the documentation in the official FreeBSD CVS tree. This means that all reviewed documents (by me and my team) are being inserted in the FreeBSD CVS tree after they are checked by Josef. If you would like to see more chapters available, please send me a mail and help the Dutch team!
Also i want to thank my team for helping me this much and doing a great job on the documentation. Keep up the good work friends!

Today i finished up some dutch documents with their style thingy’s so that we have ready documents for the FreeBSD project. Which is awesome because that means that ‘my boys’ and me didn’t do the work for nothing. Ofcourse the translators aren’t the only people that did something, so when announcing the documents and importing the doc-thingy’s which were reviewed by non-translating people i will try and mention their names, since they also did a great job in helping out with the project.
What did i futher do today? I have perforce space setup here. That means you can now see what i am doing in the local - repro that i have here :-). Since no one else can reach it, you will only see my committer name here.

As people might or might not know, i am the project leader of the FreeBSD Dutch Documentation Project. This involves doing communications with FreeBSD, other FreeBSD Documentation Projects and with the members of the list. And even setting communications with non members, to inform them what we are doing.
This is based for usage of Mostly-Harmless.nl (the primairy reason i went to translate the documentation).
Currently we have a team of individuals that workout documentation and think along with me for the routes we need to take in bringing our project to a good end. This is sometimes difficult because you cannot always make everyone happy with the documentation that still need to be worked out.
Today i am working on the Unix basics section, which i am doing for a couple of time now. The sections are huge, so it seems like no progress is being made. That is not correct, as for other chapters as well. The documentation is just big :). But then again.. I worked out the ELF section at the bottom of my chapter today. which gives me a status of 58.6% of the total. Tomorrow i am going to workout the Disk section, where i ended the last time i editted the documentation. So if you want to help out? Feel free to do so.

Below is an overview of our current translators and their chapters and progress. Feel free to contact me for more information.
The below table includes information about the project we are doing:
First we have the name of the translator (only his first name) this person is primairly responsible for the chapter (later revisions need to be mentioned in the CVSWeb interface).
Next we have the section that the person is / was working on.
And then we get a CVS ID which is the current CVS ID which is used for the translation
And finally the STATUS itself. If someone is working on the documentation there need to be some progress indicator for others so we included it there.
What does the FreeBSD CVS ID mean?
This means on what version the documents in the freebsd repro is currently based upon. PH means PlaceHolder version and the numbers.. well they represent the version of the English documentation on which the translation is currently based. The NA represents that a update still is taking place (Not Available) this can be due to infrastructural updates.
What do all the STATUS messages mean?
NS: Not started
TR: Translating (with progress indicator next to it)
FI: Finished translation
RV: Review (Technical and linguistic)
SG: SGML Check
DO: Completely done
RE: Released in the FreeBSD tree
Who manages the documentation releases? Remko Lodder maintains the documentation in perforce where Remko also has the option to import the documents into the official FreeBSD CVS Repository.
