Since somewhat more then a week ago I decided to give a burst of energy back to the FreeBSD Dutch Documentation project again by making the current translations up to date and submitting them towards the main project. As you could have seen there were a lot of commits because of this lately, and I also setup a personal p4 workspace for this so that I can better maintain the documentation at hand…

Roughly said that I did more then an entire chapter in the last few days since the backlog is so huge, it seems like entire translations at one go, but it seems to be worth the effort.

Dennis also hooked up and decided to translate the Virtualization chapter, which will be included in perforce first and then will be imported into the official tree (after ripping out any possible error).

I also commited work in progress for the mail chapter and advanced-networking chapter (Benno van den Berg, thanks!), they need a little TLC (Tender, Love and Care) before they can be in, but if they do not give any real problems I might as well import partial revisions after making sure they maintain the high quality level of the FreeBSD Project.

That said, the rest of my projects are still ongoing and I keep being busy as usual, more updates probably to follow!

After 1st christmasday (which was just casual at home, hacking around in FreeBSD Sources and documentation (nl_NL had been updated again… :-)), 2nd christmasday followed, the day that I spend largely at Denise and Luca’s place :-)

I got some really nice gifts from Denise, Luca and her parents which I can use very well :-), together with Denise’s brother and the three of us we played several games with Luca which he liked most of the time :-)

We also went outside for a little and walked around in the Nothern part of Spijkenisse, here we saw some nice nature and we bumped into some Scottish Highlanders along the way, very interesting beasts to see. It was a bit tricky to cross the beast-fence though, but we found out later that we could normally bypass that by using the “door” (which was a door to prevent the beasts from escaping the scene, but letting people go in and out) :-)

Later on Luca ate dinner already and we ate a bit later (including Luca) and after that Luca went to bed and we started building up the “hotel“ game. Luca needed to tell Denise (and later me) something about the birthday of his nephew, and then finally went to bed :-).

We played hotel for a little (I played with Denise because there can only be four players) and suddenly Denise and I realised we had won the game.. every other player overbought him/herself and needed to get rid of their property and we had enough money to make sure that we could collect the hotels where needed. The teamcombination was brilliant :-)

Yesterday, Denise Luca and I went to the Winterefteling, we had reserved tickets through our “airmiles“ and where able to bypass the ticket selling points and head straight into the park. I noticed it was far more busier then years before that I went on the same day. Click the read more button to see the entire story including pictures! :-) Continue reading »

Last night denise and I went to the movie Enchanted, a tale about a princess that finally gets to marry her prins, but then something evil happends (because of a witch queen) ; she comes in the real world and needs to find her way through that.

It’s a movie with loads of humor, magic, tales, singing, romance, etc. A very nice movie to visit; I certainly enjoyed the movie and Denise also did! We had another great evening :-)

The past week had been a very busy week, like the week before I was in Amsterdam for a couple of days building up a new datacenter. And i have to admit we can succesfully look back at the week. Apart from a couple of problems with some BGP sessions (that couldn’t be synchronised due to badly formed netmasks..) everything is up and running just fine.

It took us quite some hours to get to that base though, we worked many many hours last week to get it straight and now it seems we can look ahead towards the next changes again :-).

Apart from that I wasn’t home a lot so nothing much happened there after my latest update, though Tonight I will be heading to the movies again with Denise, which I am really looking forward to! :-)

Today I spend time relaxing; buying the cinema-tickets already (so that we dont have to wait for ages in the line, now we can just walk to the end of the line and bypass all those who are waiting to get in :-))

There could be times that BGP is not being synchronised properly or something. First of all, check up the localnetmask on both routers. I have -seen- issues that the netmasks weren’t the same in the same network which prevented BGP from properly being exchanged. So, hint: Check netmasks / network information and make sure they are correct!

:-) After the first part of the weekend, I also should describe the second half of the weekend, which started after I brought home Denise….

Luca and I woke up around 0745 and we headed down to watch some cartoons and eat etc. We played with the lego and Luca found another set of cars that I collected over the years; he had great fun with that :). After a while both Oma Hetty and Tijntje woke up and they got dressed and headed out for work but not after receiving a big hug from Luca ofcourse :-).

We both showered and he had great fun there as well, playing with a simple bucket and a little green frog, which he likes to play with a lot (little kids can be so happy with something so simple); after which it was time to head to the carwash, but sadly Luca didn’t want to come along, it was cold outside and he rather played with Opa Keessie, who woke up just before I left :) so all said and done, I have a clean car now and Luca played with Opa Keessie.

After that we played some more with the lego and headed over towards my granny, because she was having her 78th birthday. Some part of the family was there (some already had stopped by earlier in the day) and Luca played around and decided to taste several nuts, which were received with great joy by him because after he was content with the nuts, the bowl was empty… :-)

We also ate there and after that it was time to return Luca to his home, where I met Denise again :D and I said goodbye to both.

After arriving at home I quickly joined the rest of the family at my granny’s for a little and after not too long time we headed home again; here my dad and I picked up the idea to build up the Lego infrastructure that we have, starting with the fire department, so that Luca can play with that the next time he’s in :-)…

The floor was one big pile of Lego and we first sorted out most colors upfront and put them into seperated boxes, and voila the first car had been made, now only all the other major infrastructure :)

I’ll see whether I can make up some photo’s of that :-)

So the first half of the weekend started OK, on Friday I was at the Amsterdam datacenter again and was home late, did some regular things and just relaxed a bit :-)

Yesterday I headed towards Denise and Luca’s home where we stayed for a little and headed over to his swimming pool area, Luca did a very good job in swimming again and he loveed it a lot :D he is a very good swimmer already (at least progressing very fast)….

Together with Denise and Luca we went to the city of Rotterdam, we ate a bit there, drunk some coffee and headed towards my home. We went to the shopping-center near my house, without Luca because he wanted to stay with Opa Keessie :-)

Instead of Luca I hugged Martijn but it seems he couldn’t really appreciate that haha :-) after that we visited my granny (oma nan) and we noticed my aunt being there.. Ow joy, (not), where we spend a little time. We fetched Luca afterwards and headed towards Oma Dien, who has her 78th birthday today, so we are heading back again today :)

So a nice good start of the weekend; today will be full of fun, cleaning the car ; heading to oma’s birthday, eating there with all the other boys etc.

More updates soon! :)

So, most of the last week at work I spend at / around Amsterdam, to be more precise, I spend time at the new datacenter of my current job. We build up the firewalls and networking infrastructure and I think we did a pretty good job there. We are one of the first teams that had progressed this much already :-)

Ofcourse that is needed because the other teams cannot progress without our infrastructure ;)

With a bit of luck our infrastructure had been this well organised that we do not need to head over to the datacenter itself any longer, we had reachability from the Amsterdam network to The Hague already, so all looks good!

Hello dear reader,

I am helping out Martin Wilke, one of my ports-security team members and a huge, did I say huge contributor to the FreeBSD team(s). If you ever missed his assistance you slept under a rock, he is a speeding bullet in the team and helps wherever possible.

He also needs your help to get things better on track , something which I can really symphatize for since I know the feeling; if you want to have more information please visit his blog here.

Thanks in advance!
