Today I signed my new contact, starting from 1 oct 2006 i will be working at Snow. An Unix experts consulting company. They were the ones that had my signature today. In my opinion they currently had the best future / stability options and provided a good salary etc. I will get an lease-car from them (ofcourse I need to pay on that as well as per Dutch law) which is a Volkswagen Golf (The snowmobiel as we called it at ING). It has an interesting blue color (Which I seem to like, luckily since they do not deliver it in different colors) and well it has all nifty security options since Snow wants the car to be safe (And I’d say amen to that). I am pretty sure I will be heading for an interesting part of my life now; getting good opportunities for my personal evolution and for the evolution of Snow itself etc.
I am already excited to start, can’t wait
more updates about this later on :)

And the shocking news.. is that I will leave my current employer (ING Bank NV) starting of.. today (well this will be my final workday). After a period of almost 5 years it was time for me to find another challenge. For the last weeks/months I was jobhunting and had a lot of interviews, some were interesting, some where fascinating and some where less interesting. I did realise that this is the moment to look for a job in the IT sector, people are actively scouting and looking for experienced people. I think I have some experience and noticed that in the various job offers I got. At the moment I did not decide yet which offer I am going to take, the companies I can choose between are both very interesting which makes the choice difficult, but friday I will know and will let the companies know what I have decided.
This not only means that I will leave my current job, but it will also mean that I will loose contact with a lot of people that I have been involved with for the last 5 years. Some of them I will be really missing (they surely know who I mean) and ofcourse some of them won't be missed by me at all. That is just a normal response in my eyes after five years in a very big company (100.000+ employees).
Oh well, the party is over now, heading to work for my final workday, and then heading back at the 31st of August to say goodbye, all collegue's are welcome to join me and Avinash (who is also leaving) for a little piece of cake and some coffee or tea (warning; the coffee is overrated, handle with care ;-)).
end of the shocking message; Friday (or after Friday) I will write up something about my choice and stuff, one fact is clear; i will have a new car from the company and it will be a very nice car

How can i just let you walk away, just let you leave without a trace
When i stand here taking every breath with you, ooh
You're the only one who really knew me at all
How can you just walk away from me,
When all i can do is watch you leave
Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now, oh there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
Just the memory of your face
Ooh take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against all odds and that's what i've got to face
I wish i could just make you turn around,
Turn around and see me cry
There's so much i need to say to you,
So many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now, well there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me, just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now, cos there's just an empty space
But to wait for you, is all i can do and that's what i've got to face
Take a good look at me now, cos i'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance i've gotta take
Take a look at me now

Lance Spitzner requested some additional features for the check honeynet script which I implemented. To sum up: Fetch the mirrortime of the specified mirror, convert a timestamp into human readable time, or do both things in one go. You should really checkout the script when you have the possibility:) Continue reading »
